چکیده: Abstract: One of the wide applications of titanium and its alloys is an implant in medical applications. Titanium and its alloys for biomedical applications have many intrinsic acceptable characteristics. However, they are weak in terms of surface behavior and tribology. In this research, the wear behaviour of borides protective coating on pure commercial titanium were investigated in a simulated body fluid (SBF) under physiological temperature and pH conditions of the body. For this purpose, the pack cementation process was carried out at two different temperatures (950 and 1050 °C) and a soaking time (1 hour). In order to identify the formed phases the X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques, and to investigate the microstructure, morphology, and thickness of the boride layers scanning electron microscope (SEM) images were used. The results of XRD and SEM clearly showed the formation of boride layer of TiB whiskers and a dense layer of TiB2 phase on the surface of commercial pure titanium at 950 and 1050 C, respectively. Roughness, hardness, and wettability tests were performed to evaluate the surface properties of the samples. Also, in order to investigate the effect of the type of boride coating on its tribological behavior, first, the design of the experiment was done with the help of modeling the response surface using the Box-Behnken method, by Design-Expert software. Then, the pin wear test was performed on the disc under different conditions in both dry (air) and wet (SBF) environments. Also, the microscopic structure and phase analysis of the wear surface and wear particles of each of the coated samples were checked, and then the results were compared with the pure titanium sample. Examining the results showed that by creating a boride coating on pure titanium, not only leads to the hardening of the surface but also increases the wear resistance and reduces the friction under load conditions. The release rate of metals into the simulated body solution was checked by Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) mass spectrometry analysis and the results showed that the release rate of titanium ions was very small. According to the results of this research, titanium with boride coating significantly improves the tribological behavior of its surface in the body simulator environment, which develops its biological application
